mammalampa is a new Latvian design brand and the brainchild of a company, founded by three girls: Ieva Kalēja, Inese Zirnīte and Līga Grigule, which creates lighting fixtures in form of lamps.
mammalampa does not perceive that which is perfect and ideal to be an asset; rather that which is true and genuine. That which accents the particular beauty of elements and materials so often lost during the contemporary manufacturing process due to the quest for technological perfection or the most accessible price.
The beauty of the natural world is being eclipsed by manufacturing. Everything has to be perfect, stainless and economic. As precise as a computer generated composition. And just as artificial.
Virtual thinking has stolen our reality. In our hearts, we yearn to get back ... to it.
mammalampa uses genuine, entirely natural is not a step back into the past, but rather the application of materials and technology in a new context - the search for aesthetics and harmony, a quest that is rooted in contrasts: the unexpected against the perfect, the brutal against the refined. This approach forms mammalampas unique handwriting. Each lamp has its own story which is told by the materials and elements from which its often than not, the elements involved are living a second life. Each is unique and has been lovingly created by hand. Every element has been selected slowly and meticulously.
Creation rather than manufacturing and yearning for beauty. To achieve this, we needed the following team of girls:
The groups leading designer, Ieva has studied at Milans Domus Academy and received a Masters Degree in Design. Currently, she has embarked on an ambitious undertaking in which shes offering new artefacts on the market which are statements of belonging and conviction. The companys division of responsibilities means that Inese is responsible for the lamps production process, while Līga coordinates mammalampas marketing. And last, but not least, we owe a great deal to mammaslampas good friends, Liene Drāzniece who has created the brands graphic identity and Evelīna Deičmane who has created mammalampas style images.
mammalampa presented its first collection at the end of April during the Milan Design Week within Zona Tortona Thats Design.
